Dear Future Blog Writer, dear Jannik,
I wanted to leave you a short blog post stating the things I want to have achieved within the next year with this blog. I know it will not be easy to figure everything out and to be consistent with writing about the things you are passionate about and want to bring into the world for others to find encouragement, help, and motivation. But I hope you will find a way to bring all the amazing ideas down to words in this blog.
On the 23rd of October 2025, this blog will:
- have at least 1,000 monthly readers
- offer a wide range of blog posts about how to deal with this rough world personally and in business
- have helped to form a community that shares ideas about financial independence and lifestyle
- have connected you with amazing people that want to collaborate and bring in new ideas
- be the host of a course you are about to design that teaches financial independence and how to craft the best life possible
Maybe you will even be able to share your ideas in podcasts and videos. But this is for my future self to decide.
I have to cut it short here. I have to focus on becoming the future self that will achieve the things mentioned above.
Greetings from the past,
Jannik
A quick little background: why I would write a letter to my future self
I read about this idea in the book Become Your Future Self Now, where the author Dr. Benjamin Hardy talks about how Mr. Beast (the YouTuber) has done the same for his life. He would record videos for his future self in 6 months, 1 year, and 5 years that get posted automatically. And lo and behold, all the things he hoped for in these videos became trueâtenfold. The success also started to come faster from the point he recorded these videos.
Design your future self
The concept of visualization of the future and the outcomes you wish for is a powerful idea to me. Literally, you will bring yourself into reality, exactly as you have designed it. Other remarkable people, like the author Dr. Joe Dispenza, talk about the quantum field and how everything you project into it can become reality.
The crux for Dispenza is that you have to be in an alpha brainwave state. This means you are not in a beta brainwave state, which is the state of arousal and stress. You are in a state of rest. Diving deeper into this and explaining why less stress leads to better results in your life would be overkill for this post. But if you are interested in my view on why hustle culture in todayâs age is hurtful, check out my blog post: Mind the Grind.
Why writing a letter to yourself works
Essentially, writing a letter to your future self allows you to capture who you are today and gain insight into who you aspire to become. Looking at the example of Mr. Beast and his YouTube channel, he wished for at least 1 million subscribers 5 years after the video was released. I donât remember the exact number, but he definitely already had 50 million subscribers and is now the biggest YouTuber that has ever existed, runs multiple businesses, and is free to pursue what he is best at.
By writing down and putting the message into the world, you gain clarity. This clarity will lead to you making more intentional decisions. You acknowledge that the person you write the letter to is not the person you are today. Everyone changes over time. To yourself, you always seem like the same old dudette/dude. The truth is, thatâs not true. And how exciting is it to be able to influence who youâre going to become!?
How this approach can help you
I found out about the website FutureMe, which enables you to automatically schedule an email to yourself in a configurable amount of time. You basically write a letter to your future self that will be sent to your email address.
I encourage you to take the time todayâright now if possibleâto sit down and write a letter to your future self. Start with 6 months or 1 year. It is easier to start with a shorter timespan. Write down all your hopes and wishes for your future self. Hereâs a list of inspirations to get you started:
- Where and how do you want to live?
- How do you want your existing relationships to develop?
- How do you want to progress professionally?
- Which big milestone do you want to have achieved?
- With which people do you want to work together?
- Goals for your health and fitness
- Are there any hobbies you want to pick up again or start?
- Write down what impact you want to have on the world
If you enjoy doing it for 6 months or 1 year, continue with 5 years, 10 years. You choose.
Just do it
There are so many things you can write about. Itâs not important that your list is comprehensive. Be aware of the power this tool has for you. You can literally choose anything you like and love, and write it down for your future self. There are no limits. Really, again, there are no limits for your life in which you choose who you want to become.
